WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE. YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. On tho Wellington Stock Exchango yesterday the tendency was for shares to case. Govormnont securities were neglected, but a demand developed . for per cent, debentures of several local bodies. Seven sales were recorded, six of these being Now Zealand Breweries, which showed a weakening tendency. Th only bid made ycstqrday for Government securities was for tho 5$ per cents., 1933, at £9B ss, sellers holding for £99. There were offers of £97 5s each for Auckland Electrio Power Board 5i per cents., 1945, Auckland City 5j per cents., 1944, Wellington City 5i per cents., 1940, and Wellington Harbour Board 5j per cents.,. 1940. Lower Hutt Borough 6 per cents., maturing April 1, 1944, wero wanted at par with sellers at £lOl 10s, and Now Zealand Milk Product bonds wero steady at 20s. Bank shares wero slow and tho tono w r as easier. Commercial Bank of Australia, ordinary, wero in demand at 13s Bd, with a salo reported at 13s 9d. There was a bid of £l2 5s for Commercial Banking Company of Sydney. The shares are £l2 10s paid up. Bank of New South Wales wero m demand at £23 15s, whilo tho last salo reported about a fortnight ago was at £24 12s 6d. Bank of Now Zealand at 48s 3d, and tho long-term shares at 26s 9d wero unchanged. Union Bank of Australia wero wanted at £6 8s: last week they sold at £6 10s 6d.

Dalgety and Co. wore back to £6 6s. Now Zealand Guarantee Corporation were steady—tho ordinary at 4s 9d, and tho preference at 20s. National Insurance wero unchanged at 12s 9d. South British Insurance wero in demand at 50s, with no sellers. Gear Meat at 255, and New Zealand Refrigerating, 10s paid, at 3s wero firm. Wostport Coal wero also firm at 235. New Zealand Breweries at 28s 6d wore 3d lower than on tho previous day. and sales were reported at 28s 9d, 28s 3d and 28s 6d. Last week they sold at 30s 3d to 325. Staples and Co. were on salo at 27s ex dividend of 5 per cent, for tho half year ended Juno 30, which was paid yesterday. Dominion Investment wero firm at 21s 6d. New Zealand Drug at 50s, Wellington Queen’s Theatre at 19s, and Wilson’s Cement at 36s wero steady. Mining shares wero in fair demand. There were bids of 16s 6d for, Mount Lyoll, 10s for Okarito, 7s for Golden Dawn, and 2s 3d for King Solomon. YESTERDAY’S QUOTATIONS. STOCK MARKET. ADDINGTON SALE. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 5. This sveok’s market at Addington was the Grand National “doublo sale,” and it attracted its usual show stock in tho fat stock sections. The display in tho fat cattlo section was slightly better than for somo years. The NOIVI Island was strongly represented, as was all the South Island, including tho West Coast. Storo Sheep.—A moderate entry, mostly ewes of mixed appearance. It was a dragging sale and thero wero many passings. Values wore: Good s.m. lvlf and crossbred ewes, 14s to 16s; medium s.m. half and crossbred ewes, 10s to 12s 6d; plain s.m. half and crossbred ewes, 6s to 9s; good 6 and 8-tooth Corriedalo ewes to 16s lOd.

Spring Lambs.—An entry of 61 head of disappointing quality. Tho top price was 43s 4d. Other values ranged down to 12s 4d.

Fat Sheep.—An entry of 5600 head. A keen sale with tho demand well maintained. A consignment of 492 sheep from the North Island was yarded. There was a general advanco of Is a head in all classes. Values were: Show wethers to £2 18s; extra prime heavy wethers, 22s to 245; prime, 18s 6d to 21sj medium, 15s to 18s; light, 12s to 14s 6d; show owes, to 255; extra prime, 10s 6d to 21s 6d; prime heavy, 17s 6d to 19s; prime, 15s to 17s; medium, 11s to 14s 6d; light, 9s to 10s 6d; show hoggets to 30s 4d; extra prime, 21s to 22s 6d; prime, 18s to 20s; medium, 15s to 17s 6d; light, 10s to 14s. Fat Cattle. —An entry of 563 head. The quality was tho best seen at a “National” salo for somo years. Many show cattlo wero entered. Special show bullocks made £36 to £sl; good show bullocks, £2O to £23 17s 6d; extra prime, £ls to £l7 17s 6d; prime, £ll 10s to £l4 10s; medium weight, £9 to £ll ss; ordinary, £6 15s to £8 15s; rough, £5 to £6 10s; show heifers, to £l3 7s 6d; extra prime to £ll 10s; prime, £8 10s to £11; medium, £6 5s to £8 ss; light, £4 to £6; extra prinio cows to £ll 7s 6d; prime, £7 15s to £lO 10s; medium, £6 to £7 10s; rough cows, £4 to £5 15s. Apart from tho show cattle, values per 1001 b ranged up to 31s for primest; sorts; from 27s to 29s 6d for medium weight; 25s to 27s for heavy weight; good heifer beef to 28s Id; best cows, 255; medium, 20s to 235; rough beef down to 15s per 1001 b. v Fat Pigs.—An entry of fair sizo only. Tho porkers wero of good quality, and there was a fair demand with prices on a par with those ruling last week. Choppers, £3 to £8 10s; baconers, 47s 6d to 52s 6d; heavy baconers, 57s 6d to £3 2s 6d; extra heavy baconers, £3 10s to £3 14s 6d; average prico per lb, to sid; porkers, 33s to 38s 6d; heavy porkers, 40s to 46s 6d; average prico per lb, sjfd to 6|d. JOHNSONVILLE SALE. There was a firming in the values of fat cattle and ewes at Johnsonville salo yesterday, when Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., offered 136 head of cattle and 1546 sheep. The cattlo comprised mostly prime quality bullocks, with several pens of prime cows and heifers. Competition throughout the sale was keen, particularly for heavy bullocks and ewes. Prices were up about 10s a head on cattle. Sheep: A good sale resulted, wethers, if anything, showing no alteration on last week’s rates, but ewes were firm to the extent of Is a head; Lambs, which wero in short supply, met with a good sale.
