Youd, of Pvernuera (Auckland) ie the guest of her grand-daughter, Mrs W. if. Murch, Pahiatua. ilrs C. M. Davidson, late of Remuera, Auckland, mother of Mrs W. M. -Murch, intends taking up her residence in Pahiatua. Airs Gregory, of Whatatutu, Gisborne, ha 3 been on a brief visit to Pahiatua. The Pahiatua Boxing Club on Saturday decided to send its instructor, Ted Oxley, to compete in the light-weight division of the New Zealand amateur championships being staged this vear at Ashburton. PAHIATUA, Aug. 5. The many friends of Mrs W. ’vi. McDowell, of Koriini, will regret to learn that she i 3 now confined to her bed. Mr.s J. E. Wade, of Konini, who ha* been visiting Dunedin, Invercargill and Christchurch in connection with the tragic death of her son, returned homo last Friday. Mrs E. L. Harvey, of Mangatainoka, left yesterday for Auckland where her father, Mr Henry Cowan, is still in a critical condition. The engagement is announced of Mr Geo. L. Stafford, of Pahiatua to Mis* Olive E. Patchett, eldest daughter of Mr A. J. and the late Mrs Patchett, of Pahiatua. Mr and Mrs A. Hollings, who were visitors to Pahiatua for the week-end, returned to Wellington on Monday. They were accompanied by Mr and Mrs J, A. Graham. Mrs Dransfield, Makuri, returned home yesterday from three weeks’ holiday spent in Wellington. Mis 3 F. Rutherford, Masterton, is the gueßt of Mra F. Waring, Pori. A meeting of the Friendly Societies’ card tournament committee was held last evening. Mr A. South presided over a full attendance. The draw for the second round was arranged, after some discussion as to night of play, for the different teams.
A meeting of the executive of the Puhiat.ua A. and V. Association was held yesterday afternoon, Mr J. P. Tylco presiding. The secretary presented the financial statement in connection wdth the recent sheep drive and fair. The total expenses were £2O li, which includes] the purchase of the cutlery and tho good 3 for tho guessing competition, and tho receipts totalled £126 12. s lOd, showing a profit of £lO6 5a lOd with one or two email accounts outstanding. Mr McSherry congratulated the association on the success of the effort. lie considered tho financial position of the association, when everything was taken into consideration, as good as last year. He counselled mombers not to loeo heart. Mr 'J’yleo said that ho could not altogether agree with what Mr McSherry had said. To hold another show “would bo suicidal.” He failed to see how tho association could make a success of the next show. After a protructed discussion, it was resolved that tho executive enquire into tho financial position of the association with a view to seeing what economies could be effected, and report to a meeting to bo held on Tuesday next. Mr Tvlee gave notico of motion to movo at tho annual meeting, to bo held about tho end of tho present month, “That no show bo held next year.”
