Miss S. J. McCormick lias been appointed by the Wanganui Education Board infant mistress at the Foxton District High School in place of Miss Mountfort, resigned. Miss McCormick is at present on the staff of the Waihi District High School, and tor some years was on the staff of the Eltliam School. She will take up her duties early next month.—-Foxton correspondent. , Mrs Charles Plimmer and her daughter, Miss Mary Plimmer, of Wellington, left on a visit to America and England by the Mataroa yesterday. They are to proceed as far as the island of Curacao by the Mataroa, transhipping there for New York via Havana.

Mr and Mrs T. H. Lowry, of Hawke’s Bay. returned to New Zealand this week after a short visit to Australia.

The many friends of Mr Redshaw will regret to hear of the death of his'wife after a long illness, which took place at her residence, Hiwinui, on Wednesday evening. The deceased lady had been a sufferer for a long time and bore her illness with a cheerful spirit. The late Mrs Redshaw and her husband and family came to reside in the district 20 years agio and made many friends. She loaves a husband and a family consisting of Mr John Redshaw, Tokomarn; Mr Richard Redshaw, Te Puke; Mr A. Redshaw, Colyton; Mr George Redshaw, Hiwinui; Miss Redshaw, Hiwinui; Mrs Fagg, Rangiotu; Miss Redshaw, Wanganui; Miss Redshaw, Australia, and Mrs Raker, Bunnythorpe.—Bunnythorpe correspondent.

An improvement is reported in tlie condition of Mrs J. Glover, -who was admitted to the Levin Hospital on Sunday owing to injuries sustained in an accident to a car from Wellington in which die was a passenger.

The weekly euchre tournament held in the Oddfellows’ Hall by the Counties’ Cash Cycle Club last evening attracted the usual good attendance of card players. Those winning prizes were: —Ladies, Mrs Brown, Mrs McKay; men, Mr Kennedy and Mr McCormack.

There vrns celebrated at Upper Hutt on Saturday last the golden wedding of Mr and Mrs Maurice McNabb, which was attended by all the children, four sons and five daughters—Mrs A. McGlashen, of Motueka; Mrs G. Dyson, of Hawera; Mrs C. Cooper, of Kilbirnie; Mrs L. Russell, Whiteman’s Valley; Mrs T. Petersen, Miramar; and Messrs A. McNabb, Palmerston North; A. W. McNabb, Levin; M. McNabb, Petone; D. McNabb, Wellington. There was also in. attendance a sister of Mr McNabb, Mrs Ryder, of Paraparaumu. Sister Bradshaw, who has resigned from the staff of the Wellington Hospital in order to proceed to England!, was entertained this week at a concert given at the Victoria ward and presented with a leather dressing case on behalf of the patients of the men’s and women’s wards. STAFF DANCE. MESSRS J. R. McKENZIE, LTD. Organised by the staff of Messrs J. R. McKenzie, Ltd., a delightful dance was held last evening in the studio ofMiss Gwen Gibbs. Apple green ribbon streamers, pale pink blossoms, autumn foliage, and bright balloons made a charming decorative scheme under softly glowing lights. The hostesses were Mrs Elliott, who wore bine satin, and Mrs Dixon, who was in a black satin. Members of the committee to whom the success of the function was due, were Mrs Smith, who was Ah cream lace and diamante; Mrs Gftrnham, in floral georgette; Miss Key (manageress of “A” store), black satin and diamante; Miss King, apricot lace and velvet bridge coat to tone; Miss Reed, pale pink satin; Miss Wright, blue brocaded georgette; Mi.ss Zaloum, black georgette; Miss Sandiford, black taffeta; Miss Sclilierike, pale green satin with green bridge coat; also Mr Garnliam, # manager of “B” store, who made an excellent master of ceremonies, and Mr Martin. The Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss L. Reed and Mr Deadman, and Miss P. Hall and Mr R. Hatch were the winning couple in the balloon dance. ARTILLERY DANCE. A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The local artillery unit held a dance in the P.D.C. cabaret last evening when about 100 couples graced the . floor to spend an enjoyable time in dancing to excellent music. A strong committee attended to the general arrangements and the duties of M.C. were carried out by Messrs R. Page and W. Millar, while Mesdames Potter, McCaskill and Joyce were present as chaperones. The committee have every reason to be satisfied with the success _ which attended their efforts, and it is intended to hold another and similar function at no distant date.

WEDDING. KRAMNER—TAYLOR. A very pretty wedding took placo at St. John’s Church, Feilding, on 28th July, when Dora, daughter of Mr and Mrs Taylor, of Cunninghams, was joined in holy matrimony to Percy Kramner, of Bunnythorpe. The brido, -who was given away by her father, wore an ivory velvet frock made with tightfitting bodice, long sleeves and flared skirt with the usual veil and orange blossoms, and carried a beautiful bouquet. Sho was attended by Bliss Cummerfield, who wore a pink satin georgette frock with hat and shoes to match, and earned a pink bouquet. Miss Winnie Taylor, sister of the bride, was in attendance wearing a green velvet frock and carried a muff. Mr G. Lassen, of Bunnythorpe, was best man. The officiating minister was Rev. Canon Petrie, of Feilding. After the ceremony the bride’s parents entertained the guests at the wedding breakfast at Whitehead, Mrs Taylor wearing a brown costume. The usual toasts were honoured, after which the happy couple left for the . south where the honeymoon will be spent. The bride’s travelling dress was a navy crepo-de-chino frock and coat and hat to match. The happy couple, who received many valuable presents, will make their futuro homo in Bunnythorpe. BIRTHDAY PARTY. PALMERSTON NORTH RANGERS. Members of the First Company, Palmerston North Rangers, celebrated their* first birthday very happily in the St. John Ambulance Hall last evening, there being an attendance of over thirty. The guests were required to attend in “hard-up” costume, some of the creations causing a good deal of merriment.

Among tliose present were Miss Cranston (Ranger Captain), Miss BVar-bui-ton, Mrs F. T. Vasey (Captain First Company, Palmerston North Guides), Miss Chard, Mesdames Cranston, Tottman and T. Bennett, also Feilding and Rongotea Rangers and other Palmerston North visitors.

The hall was attractively decorated. The time passed pleasantly with games and competitions interspersed with dancing, the competition winners being Misses Rita Ensom, Elaine Ewan and Lorna Davis (Rongotea). The prizes for the best “hard-up” costumes were awarded to A. Trollope and E. Dickie. The centre of attraction at supper was a birthday cake ornamented with one candle and emblem, donated by Mr Revere, of Feilding. A handsome cloth, embroidered with appropriate emblems by tlie company, was also much admired.

Miss Ellett, Captain of the Feilding Rangers, presented the company with a framed picture, and Miss L. Davis (Rongotea) presented a book for the library. Other gifts received were as follow:—Billy (Mrs Tottman); cake dish (Mrs Nicliolls); cake plate (Mrs Cranston) ; book for library (Miss Cranston). Tlie prizes for the competitions were also donated by Mrs and Miss Cranston. The function concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” RANGITIKEI HUNT CLUB BALL. Tlie Rangitikei Hunt Club Ball held at Marton on Tuesday night was a greater social success than ever. Visitors were present in large numbers from all over the province, and the dancing space was crowded. The duties of M.C.’s were carried out by the Blaster (Mr D. G. Riddiford), and Deputy-Blasters \V. J. Simpson, J. Brice,. F. BlcLean and H. J. Cameron and Hon. Whip BV. BV. BVilson. The ladies’ committee, under the supervision of Blrs BB r . J.; Simpson as secretary, comprised Blrs H. J. Cameron, Mrs J. Brice, Blrs D. BlcLean, Blrs E. L. Briant, Blrs F. McLean, Blrs E. C. Gaisford, Mrs J. H. BlcLean and Bliss Trotter. The general committee, Blessrs D. G. Riddiford, BB’’. J. Simpson, F. BlcLean, J. Brice, H. J. Cameron, D. McLean, E. BlcGregor, D. Simpson, BV. BV. BVilson, A. W. Trotter, P. BV. Briant, C. Henderson, H. G. Briant, K. Duncan, Hamisli Simpson L. T. BlcLean, Leighton Bull and A. BVay (hon. secretary), assisted by several visitors and members of tlie hunt, carried out the usual duties connected with the conducting of a successful ball.

Fagan (Sanson), blush pink net over satin; M. Linklater, cream panne velvet; D. Pearce, white georgette and tosca lace; N. Pearce, white taffeta with frilled skirt; M. Moore, black georgette, crystal beaded and tulle skirt, floral embroidered coatee; 81. Johnston (Feilding), brick red lace; B. Gordon Elliott (Feilding), beige lace and georgette; 81. Pratt (Feilding), black lace; M. Goodall (Bulls), cream lace; 81. BlcKenzio (Bulls), garland green taffeta. The ball ended in the time-honoured way with a gallop, the National Anthem and “Auld Lang Syne.” BASKETBALL. MID-BVEEK MATCHES. The results of the mid-week basketbal] matches played in Palmerston North yesterday were as follow:—Convent Old Gilds A 40, v. Convent High School B nil; Y.M. Gym. beat Convent Old Girls B by default; Convent High School A, a bye.
