SALE AT ADDINGTON. ADVANCE IN PRICE OF STORE SHEEP. „ Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, July 29. At tho Addington market, heavy entries were the rule to-day in all tho fat stock sections, due, to somo extent, to tho approach of the Grand National holiday weok. Fat cattle cased by up to 25s a head, and sheep scarcoly maintained tho preceding week’s values. A slightly larger entry of storo sheep sold well at an advance of up to Is. a head. Good ewes were in request. Store Sheep.—Good two-tooth halfbred owes, 16s 6d to 17s 6d; ordinary two-tooth halfbred ewes to 13s 6d; good two-tooth threo-quarterbrod ewes to 17s 9d; good s.m. half and threo-quartorbred owes, 14s to 15s 6d; medium s.m. half and thrccquarterbred owes, 10s 6d to 12s; ordinary s.m. half and three-quarterbred ewes, 8s to 9s 6d; good halfbred wethers to 13s 3d; ordinary halfbred wethers, 10s to 11s; ordinary wether hoggets to 9s lOd. Fat Sheep.—A heavy entry of exceptionally well-finished sheep sold at slightly easier rates. It was a good sale. Choppers, 50s to £5 18s 6d; baconors, 47s 6d to 54s 6d; heavy, to £3 14s 6d (average price per lb, 44d) ; porkers, 36s to 45s 6d (average price per lb, 5Jd to 63d). Storo pigs had a good markot, weaners making 16s to 255; stores, 24s to 345; sows in pig, to £5 ss. JOHNSONVILLE SALE. At Johnsonvillo sale yesterday values of all classes of stock were firm, tho pricos [or ewes showing a rise of Is to Is 6d a head. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., offered an average yarding of cattlo and a smaller yarding than usual of sheep, Cattlo comprised mostly prime weight quality bullocks with several pens of prime quality cows and heifers. Competition throughout the sale was keen, particularly for prime quality stock. Prices were on a par with last week’s rates. Sheep: A good sale, wethers showing no alteration in last week’s ratos, but ewes firm to tho extent of Is to Is 6d per head. Lambs, which were yarded in small numbers, mot with a good sale. STOCK MARKET. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., in conjunction with Associated Live Stock Auctioneers, Ltd., report having held a sale of pedigree and grade Jersey cattle on account of Mr R. Power at his homestead, Westmere, on Tuesday. While thero was quite a good attendance bidding was not animated though practically the whole catalogue wa3 cleared. The grade Jersey heifers met a ready sale and the following are quotations: Pedigree Jersey heifers, 84 gns, lOgns, llgns, 13gns, 134gns, 17gns; pedigree Jersey cows, 84gns; young pedigree Jersey bulls, 64gns, 7igns, llgns; grade Jersey springing heifers, £6 ss, £7 ss, £7 15s, £B, £8 2s 6d, £8 7<s 6d, £9.

WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE. YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. Littlo chango was apparent in the demand for stocks and shares on tho Wellington Stock Exchange yesterday. Thero wero moro sellers than buyers for Government stocks and bonds. The 44 per cent, stocks, 1938, wero steady at £99 ss, and the 5i per cents., stocks and bonds, 1932, wero unchanged at £99 15s. Tho 44 per cent, bonds, 1941, changed hands at £99 10s. For Auckland City 54 per cents., 1944, Wellington City 54 per cents., 1940, and Wellington Harbour Board 54 per cents., 1940, £97 5s was bid for each. Bank shares wore inclined to easo in somo cases. Bank of Australasia wero wanted at £8 15s 3d, whilo on Monday £9 was olfered for them. Commercial Bank of Australia ordinary, were steady at 14s. English, Scottish and Australian Bank wero down 2s 6d and £3 15s. National Bank c,[ Australasia, £lO paid, at £9 10s, wero 2s 6d lower. Bank of New South Wales wero up 5s at £24 10s. Gas shares were firm, Christchurch Gas at 25s and Wellington Gas at 275, bbth cum dividend. Gear Meat were steady at 255, and Now Zealand Refrigerating, 10s paid, at 3s Id. Huddart-Parker, ordinary wero firm at 20s, and Union Steam wero wanted at 19s lOd. Westport Coal wero up 3d at 23s 3d; Leyland-O’Brion Timber wero again wanted at 21s. Brewery shares wero weaker. Various rumours wero floating around yesterday with respect to the beer duty. New Zealand Breweries wero in domand at 31s 9d, and three parcels changed hands at 325.
