MOTOR COLLISION AT BAINESSE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, July 23. Two cars met in collision a short distance past the Bainessc railway station about 7 o’clock last night, but although the vehicles were extensively damaged no one was seriously injured. Mr A. Evans, of Foxton, was prbcectL ing to Palmerston North to attend tlie wrest, ling match, accompanied by his brother, M° J. Evans, and Messrs V. McDowell and Ruff ell. all of Foxton. When past the Baincsse railway station tho collision occurred with a car, driven Tiy Mr A. Sexton, of Himatangi, who was accompanied by ’ Mrs Sexton atlfl their daughter. Mr Evans’s car was swung round to face the railway line, while Mr Sexton’s skidded round in tho middle of the road. The impact was heavy and glass from the windscreens of tho cars flew in all directions. The front wheel of Mr Evans’s car was completely smashed in, so much so that the tyre fell off and rolled away unpunctured. Mr Sexton’s car was also put out of commission by tho force of tho impact. Fortunately, all escaped without serious injury, although both Mr A. Evans and Mr Sexton suffered facial abrasions and all more or less suffered from shock. Mrs Sexton and her daughter were cared for by Mrs BrookeTaylor until friends were able to take them homo. Both cars had to be towed away.
