HIGH COMMISSIONER.

POST IN AUSTRALIA. The British Government will appoint a High Commissioner in Australia before the end of tho year. This anouneement was made by Mr E. T Crutchley, British Government representative in the Commonwealth, in an address at Canberra. s In emphasising the importance of closer relations between the British and Dominion , Governments, Mr Crutchley, explained that the dominions were already represented by High Commissioners in London, and that Great Britain had now realised the necessity of following suit. “The need for close consultation in foreign affairs,” lie said, “becomes greater and greater. Also there is the necessity for constant communication on economic and financial' matters affecting the whole of the British Commonwealth. Consultations cannot be confined to an exchange of despatches. The appointment of a High Commissioner in Australia will, I feel sure, be of the greatest possible benefit to our relations. The appointment will act as a valuable link between Australia and the United Kingdom. He added: “Let us get together and keep together, and never drift apart. We are of the same stock; we share the same ideals. Let Mis march forward, '•'side by side, helping each other over the rough patches and sharing the good things when they come—a Commonwealth of nations with a commonwealth of interests and affections.”
