BRITISH YOUTH KIDNAPPED.
INDIGNATION IN SHANGHAI. SHANGHAI, July 21. The entire foreign community is stirred by the disappearance of a British youth named Thorburn, aged 19, on June 1. Investigations carried out by the British Consul circumstantially prove that the ycyith was kidnapped and possibly maltreated by native soldiery within 50 miles of Shanghai «. The Nanking Government denies all knowledge of the whereabouts of Thorburn.. . . , , National societies, supported by more than 3000 British signatures, are cabling to London demanding strong action.' The affair is creating unprecedented international indignation.
