'PLANE AS AMBULANCE.

GISBORNE TO AUCKLAND. CANON H. PACKE AS PATIENT. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, July 22. What is understood to be the first case in New Zealand of an aeroplane being used as an' ambulance occurred this morning, when Canon H. Packe left Gisborne at 8.15 o’clock in the Gisborne Air Transport Company’s cabin ’plane en route to an Auckland hospital. Canon Packe, who has been an inmate of the Gisborne Hospital for some weeks, was ordered treatment by a specialist, but his condition made a road journey inadvisable and efforts to obtain a passage in an overseas liner were frustated owing to the rough seas. Then it was decided to utilise an aeroplane, the machine being partially convenient to enable the patient to travel with the maximum of comfort.
