RONGOTEA HURDLES TO LANDMARK. FAVOURITE SCORES. The Manawatu Racing Club 5 winter meeting was continued this afternoon at Awapuni, rain falling after the fourth race. Gourmet, Unoco. Day Lass and Evening Hero were the defections from the Rongotea Hurdle Handicap. leaving a field of seven. Landmark was a good ; favourite from Callapat and \\ ar Zone. 1 The favourite carried hie backers through, j but the ether pair failed to figure in I the piacings. Callapat and Chllamart i were the early leaders, but the latter of the pair gave way as they entered the straight. The Warden running tip to attend Callapat. with Auctioneer and War Zone next. Going along the back Callapat was still in charge from The Warden, but, passing the five furlong post, Spearmiss, who had been purchased to-day by Mr K. MeK. Duncan, moved I up into third position ahead of Auctioneer and War Zone. Spearmiss was, however, losing ground at her jumps, and War Zone deposed her as they came across the top. Callamart and Landmark here made forward moves, the favourite ■coining from the back very fast and, although Callamart was the first over the final fence, the former maintained Iris burst of speed to get up to win by one and a-half lengths from Callamart. with Spearmiss’ a length back. Auctioneer was fourth, being followed home by The Warden. Callapat and War Zone. FAVOURITE AGAIN SCORES. Trojan Melody was scratched for the Ruahine Handicap. Adventus and Chief Savage came into favour, the pair being £l2O better fancied than Kissless. Racing on to the course proper Patearoa and j Potcaform wore showing the way to Adj ventus, Chief Savage and Miss Chatter, i Kissless being another 2 lengths backs. At the j half-mile post •f’otociorm gave way to (Adventus and the favourite and Patearoa | crossed the tep together ahead of Chief Savage, Potoaform, Miss Chatter and Kissless. When the pressure was applied Patearoa compounded. Adventus going to the front, and although Kissless ■ made an e ort to get up, the favourite was two lengths clear from Kissless at the pest with Chief Savage a similar distance back, i Patearoa was fourth, wtih Miss Chatter next.
