A Press Association message from Groymouth announces the death of Mr William Joseph Joyce, a- well-known solicitor, aged 60. Mr C. J. D. Skinner, who' formerly resided in Feilding, where he was attendance officer for the Wanganui Education Board, died at the residence of his brother at Island Bay, Wellington, on Saturday. A cable message from Hobart announces the death of Professor Alexander McAulav, one of the world’s most brilliant mathematicians, aged 6§. Professor McAulay was a leading authority on the theory of quaternions. Mr J. D. Thomson, Commissioner of Crown Lands for Hawke’s Bay, who is retiring on superannuation this month, was the guest of the Glengarry soldier settlers at Dannevirke on Friday night and was presented with an illuminated address. A London cable message announces the death of Sir William Hart Dyke, aged 93, for many years a member of Parliament. Sir William was for some time Disraeli’s Chief Whip, and at one period, 45 years ago, was Chief Secretary for Ireland.

A well-known Auckland business man and a prominent worker in the interests of the Reform. Party, Mr Thomas Clinton Pow, died at his residence, Ponsonby, last week at the age of 47. At the time of his death Mr Pow was chairman of directors of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. Company, Ltd.

Among degrees recently conferred by the Senate of the University of New Zealand on students of Victoria University College were the following : Master of Agricultural Science, Mr Lionel Corkill (Massey College), second class in field husbandry; Bachelor of Commerce, Mr Donald George Glendinning (Palmerston North). No graduation ceremony is being held this year.

Mr Charles Gonnerman Dalgety died in Christchurch yesterday at the age of 61 years. His father, who was the founder of the firm'of Dalgety and Co., Ltd., came to New Zealand in 1891 and settled in Canterbury. Air Dalgety was a committeeman and steward of the Canterbury Jockey Club for 29 years, and was both popular and successful on the turf. His wife died a few months ago. He leaves three sons, Alessrs Charles Dalgety (Mangaweka), Burnett Dalgety (Hawarden) and Stafford Dalgety (London), and ono daughter, Airs F. J. Gorton (View Hill, Oxford, Canterbury).
