GOSPEL ADDRESS.

“NEW MOONS, FEASTS, AND

SABBATHS.”

“It is necessary to survey briefly the Jewish festivals, new moons, annual sabbaths, etc., before one can get an understanding of tho thought expressed by the Apostle Paul in Col. 2; 14-IY,” said Pastor C. A. Wrigley in his sermon in tho Adventist Church last night. Ho continued by saying; “Dr Goodspecd’s translation of tho 16th verso of Col. 2 throws tho full light of truth on tho thought that tho Apostle had in mind when writing to tho Church at Colosse. It reads, ‘So no one can call you to account for what you eat or drink or do about annual or monthly feasts or sabbaths.” There wore three annual festivals, seven annual sabbaths, and each now moon, that is, tho first day of each month throughout the year, to bo observed by tho Jews, and these festivals and annual sabbaths are clearly outlined in tho earlier hooks of tho Bible, particularly in' Lev. 23. Thcso feasts were to bo observed besides tho seventh-day Sabbath of tho Lord, to which these feasts had no reference whatever, for tho feasts were given after tho fall, and they pointed to Christ, but when Jesus died on tho cross all tho sacrificial system with its annual feasts was abolished; but tho seventh-day Sabbath was given in Eden, beforo sin entered, therefore it was a memorial of tho Creator’s work of a finished creation, and is as enduring as eternity itself. (Isa. 66: 22-23, Eph. 2: 15, 9: 8-14.) The law that w-as abolished at Calvary was tho ceremonial law which had to do with meats, drinks, carnal ordinances, divers washings, .annual sabbaths, new moons, etc., and as Christ caused tho ‘sacrifice and ohlation to cease’ (Dan. 9: 27) by His death on tho cross, tho writer of Colossians in writing to tho Church rightfully says, ‘So no ono con call you to account for what you cat or drink or do about annual or monthly feasts or sabbaths’ ; but ho has no question about tho moral law, for ho declares it bo holy, just and good, and his coming to Christ and having faith in Him would by no means abolish tho ten commandment law. Therefore the Sabbath of the Lord was kept by him as well as 'by all tho apostles. (Rom. 7- 12 3: 20, 31, Acts 17: 2, 24: 14, 13: 42-44.)”
