HEAT WAVE BROKEN
COOL SHOWERS IN UNITED STATES. BIG DEATH ROLL. AIANY WORKERS PROSTRATE. (United Press Association—By Electric (Telegraph—Copyright.) NEW YORK, July 2. The heat wave caused 766 deaths throughout the nation before it was broken to-night by low atmospheric pressure over the great plains region, accompanied by cool north winds and showers. Unofficially, Pittsburg to-day registered 115 degrees, but Carbondale (Illinois) registered 106 officially, while a temperature of 100 degrees was reported in many States. A motor works in Detroit had to be closed after 250 workers had been treated for prostration caused by the heat.
