HEAT WAVE BROKEN

The heat wave caused 766 deaths throughout the nation before it was broken to-night by low atmospheric pressure over the great plains region, accompanied by cool north winds and showers. Unofficially, Pittsburg to-day registered 115 degrees, but Carbondale (Illinois) registered 106 officially, while a temperature of 100 degrees was reported in many States. A motor works in Detroit had to be closed after 250 workers had been treated for prostration caused by the heat.
