(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, July 1. The rainfall in Otaki for Jun’e totalled 4.78 inches. Rain fell on 14 days, with the heaviest fall (1.22 in) on the 10th. Vital statistics for Juno were: —Births 6, deaths 4 (3 Maoris), marriages 2. A car, the property of Mr C. O’Rourke, was last night taken from a garage at the back of an hotel and up to the present no trace has been found of it.
A very pleasant evening’ was spent by all who attended the euchre party at the Anglican Parish Hail on Monday. Play was very keen, and the prizes were won a 3 follow: Ladies’ first, Mrs J. McGill; consolation. Mrs F. Mann; men’s first, Mr 0. Nilsson; consolation, Mr F. Mitchell. The points prize for the series of six evenings were won by Mrs Ray Bills, with Mrs Knight close up, and the men’s prize by Mr 0. Nilsson with Mr Childs a close second. The points prizes were donated by Mrs Moir and Mr J. Miller. About one hundred ladies attended a meeting yesterday to discuss matters relative to the prevailing distress in Otaki and to see what steps could be taken to give relief. Mr W. Burne Smith occupied, the chair. A committee was set up to carry out relief work.
A sft frost fish was this morning found on the Otaki beach by Mr W. H. Bowden. Mr and Mrs L. Kilmister have left fertile north on holiday.
