WORLD’S CHAMPIONSHIP.
CONTEST IN ISLE OF MAN
BRITAIN’S SUPREMACY CHALLENGED. (United Press Association—By Electric . Telegraph.—Copyright.) , (British Official Wireless.) Received June 19, 10.5 a.m. RUGBY, June 18. The motor cycle speed championship of the world will be contested to-mor-row in the Isle of Man, and the world’s best riders, from Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and elsewhere, are challenging Britain’s supremacy in this senior race. The winners of the two Tourist Trophy races, which have already been held, will participate, and it is expected that a lap speed of about 80 miles per hour, involving a mountain descent of 110 miles per hour, will be reached. In tlie race for the light-weight trophy, Tyrell Smith, on a Rudge, finished second, and Mellors, on a New Imperial, was third. The foreign machines seemed to be outclassed.
Tlie Italian crack rider, Ghersi, came in sixth, but was riding a British New Imperial cycle. The little engines, each with a piston diameter no bigger than a wine-glass, stood up to the race v with astonishing efficiency.
