THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. An intense anti-cyclone still extends from Tasmania across the south Tasman Sea to southern New Zealand, hut there has been only a moderate rise of pressure in tlie north. AVinds variable in the far south; elsewhere southerly to south-easterly, still strong between Cape Campbell and East Cape, but later moderating; elsewhere moderate. Seas considerable between Kaikoura and East Cape and in the Cook Strait area, but moderating smooth to moderate in New Zealand waters. Light to moderate and variable winds in the eastern Tasman Sea with south to east prevailing; seas smooth. AA r eather fine in most districts, but still some showers along the East Coast between Castlepoint and East Cape and in the extreme north. Temperatures cool with frosts in-, the South Island and the interior of the north.
DISTRICT REPORT.
MILD TEMPERATURES. The Government meteorologist wired to-day.:—The indications are for moderate southerly grinds. There is a prospect of fair weather, with mild temperatures. The barometer shows little movement. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —2ft 9ins.
