DRAINAGE OPERATIONS.

SLUGGISH RIVER BOARD. The Sluggish River Drainage Board met yesterday, Mr F. J. Foster presiding. Others present were Messrs Morecomb, Print, Ryan and Wilson. The overseer (Mr W. Locke) reported that the Main Drain had been completed as far as Brownlie’s Bridge. Since the heavy rain, about one foot of sand had scoured down for a length of about eight chains on a section which was decently deepened. Drains inspected and passed had been the No. 2 portion of the Sluggish Creek, Johnson’s, AValsh’s, Leen’s, No. 6, No. 1, Cooper’s and Greenaway’s, as well as garts of the Taikorea, Mathers’ and aincsse drains. An application was made for an increase in the contract price on the second portion of the Main Drain, but the request was not entertained by the board. ~ It was resolved that Mr Hay be authorised to peg out Mathers’ drain. Accounts amounting to £146 3s were passed for payment.
