WEST END SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The "West End School Committee met on Wednesday evening, Mr G. Tremaine presiding. Others present were Messrs Beattie, Warner, Healey, Crump, Downing, Schwabe, McKee, and Hollier (hon. secretary). . An apology for absence was received from the headmaster (Mr Jackson). The headmaster reported that the roll number stood at 358, and the average attendance for the last four weeks had been 328.75. On Wednesday and Thursday last the school was visited by. Messrs Blackie and Partridge, inspectors of schools. In conformity with the custom in previous years, a short Anzac Day ceremony would be held in the school on Friday afternoon, April 24, when parents would be invited to be present. Advice was received from the Wanganui Education Board ’that its architect had in hand the preparation of a report dealing with exits from the school. —The letter was formally received.

Reporting upon the financial position, the secretary stated that the general account started with a credit balance of £33 8s 7d. From the Education Board £132 had been received in capitation, while money raised locally amounted to £B6 11s 2d. With grants received the total receipts had been £4Ol 19s 9d. Cleaning and sanitation had accounted for £l4l 11s 3d in the expenditure and fuel and lighting for £24 11s Id. Various sums had been spent on ground improvements, and after all charges had been met there was a credit balance of £l6 9s 2d in hand on February 28. Money raised for the purposes of the special account had amounted to £349 6s sd, and altogether with receipts from various sources the total amount received had been £659 Os Bd. Disbursements had balanced those figures. Messrs Tremaine and Beatty both paid a tribute to the unfailing energy and enthusiasm of the secretary (Mr Hollier) during the year. The chairman returned thanks to his fellow committeemen for their support during the year, and expressed the hope that all would be re-elected.
