RANGIOTU.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) RANGIOTU, April 15.

There was a poor attendance at the annual general meeting of the Huia Football Club held last Monday evening. Mr H. H. Simmons was voted to the chair and in his introductory remarks congratulated the club on its winning the McKelvie 'Shield for the second time in succession in the junior competition of the Te Kawau Sub-Union. He also thanked the players and members for their loyal support during the season. The speaker announced that ho was not seeking re-election on the management committee. He regretted the evening’s poor attendance which did not look too promising for the club. The secretary, Mr It. Carkcek, in his report stated that the club had once more enjoyed a successful season. The success, continued the report, had been mainly due to the combined efforts and enthusiastic spirit exhibited by the members and supporters of the club. Owing to lack of membership the club was unable to enter a third grade team, consequently all efforts were concentrated in tho formation of a junior team. A fair measure of difficulty was encountered in maintaining the strength of the juniors owing to tho scattered nature of tire district, and to several active members leaving at various times, nevertheless the team managed to win through. Two teains Were entered to take part in the junior seven-aside tournament of tho sub-union, but neither however was successful. In representative matches the juniors were strongly in evidence and every member selected to play proved a credit to the sub-union and the club. The following are the members who gained representative honours: Manawatu juniors, W. Gimblett; Te Kawau juniors, \V. Gimblett, W. Larkins, B. Kapia, S. Matai, John Ftizgerald, J. Gupwell, Poto Governor, W. Nairne and J. Nairne. During tho year two functions were held to swell the funds. Both of these were not only financial successes, but they aided materially in keeping up the spirit of the players. Special thanks were due by the club to tho Larkins family (Larkins Kstate) for their assistance in placing' their grounds at the disposal of the club. Thanks also were due to the club delegate, Mr Simmons, and to Mr T. G. Donaldson for the many services rendered by them. The balance-sheet showed that the club was in a fair financial position, in spite of tho fact that the expenses had been heavy. The present credit balance was £2 B<s 7d. In moving the adoption of the report, Mr Simmons said that the club was greatly indebted to Mr Carkcek, who as secretary and treasurer for the past three, years had performed a vast amount of work on behalf of the members. Appreciation of the secretary’s services was placed on record in tho minutes. Mr Carkeek intimated that 'he was not seeking rc-eloetion for this coming season, and he sincerely trusted that his successor would enjoy that same measure of support and confidence he had always received. Finally he wished the club every success during the coming season. Owing to tho small attendance, it was resolved that the meeting be adjourned to a future date in order to further discuss and review tho prospects of the club. In the meantime every possible effort will bo mnde to foster the game in tho district and to enter a senior team in the competition. The local Ride Club held its first weekly shoot of the season last Tuesday evening, when there was only a fair attendance. The shooting on the whole was' good, several recruits showing evidence and prospects of good markmanship. It is to be hoped that a good muster will welcome the second weekly gathering of the club on the range next, week. Mrs A. D. Webster and her son, Turoa, who recently returned from Sydney, were visitors to Rangiotu during the week.
