MAIN HIGHWAYS
TOUR BY THE BOARD. PALMERSTON NORTH VISIT. Alembers of the Alain Highways Board commenced their biennial tour of the W est Coast districts of the North Island yesterday and met tlie Horowlienua County Council representatives at Levin last night, when reading matters and subsiuies were discussed. Resuming their journey of inspection, they stopped at Shannon and Eoxton this morning to hear various representations, and arrived in Palmerston North shortly before noon to meet representatives of the Kairanga County Council, Palmerston North City Council and Manawatu Automobile Association. The members of the board who visited this centre were the chairman, Air F. W. Furkcrt (chief engineer for the Public Works Department), also Alessrs J. J. Gibson (Wellington), W. Aiorrison (Waitotara), C. J. Talbot (Canterbury), Al. Wynyard (Auckland) and C. J. McKenzie (Wellington). Mr It. H. Itonayne, district engineer for the Public Works Department, was also in attendance, Air Joseph Batclielar (chairman of the Kairanga County Council) extended a cordial welcome to the board members on behalf of the No. 9 Highways District, but expressed regret that their visit had not eventuated on a busier traffic day, in order that they could more readily understand the claims of the district.
Subsequently the board proceeded to Sanson to meet tlie Manawatu County Council and to Mnrton to meet the Rangitikei County Council. They are due in Wanganui to-night. Subsequently they will visit Stratford, Whangamomona, New Plymouth, Te Ivuiti, Otorohanga, Taumarunui, Raurimu, and Raetihi. Their intinerary will carry them on until next Wednesday, when they will return via Wanganui.
