THE SOCCER CODE
OPENING OF SEASON. The association football season in the Manawatu will open on Saturday when St. Andrew’s and Abiotic will meet at the North Street Park, commencing at 2.45 o’clock. From the teams which are listed below, it may be taken for granted that a good exposition of the code will result. The teams will be chosen from'the following r St. Andrew’s: Holland, Backhouse Thomson, Corkindale, Lyons, Smillie, Stewart, Mackenzie, MeSheffrey, Robertson, McDonald , Claridge, Russell, Oman. Athletic. —Gear, Askam, A. Crowe. Marlin, Rainford, Geekie, Hearsay, Travers, H. Childs, Watt, R. Repsch, Doy, Beer, P. Childs, A. Reid, Harriman, T. Crowe, Windvbank. JUNIOR GRADES. Playing at 1 o’clock College Street will be represented by the following: W. Turnbull, Moore, Macintyre, Bacon, Holden, Alsop, Shipton, Jones, Smith, Downes, Taylor. Playing at 2 o’clock, the Te Awe Awe Scouts will be chosen from the following: Keinpson, Newton, Facer, Winchcombe, Cameron, Downes, Levy, B. Turnbull, Russell (captain), McShane, McQueen, Holden. Reserves: Oliver, Bailey, Burrows, Taylor, Stubbs, Alsop, Moore. Macintyre, W. Turnbull, Wheatley, Parsons, O. Burrows, Hooker, Shipton.
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING. The management committee of tho Manawatu Football Association met this week. Mr J. C. Young presiding. Also present wore Messrs Ivey. Worrall, Contour, Baldwin, Facer, Kempson, Cooper and J. B. Smillie (secretary). In connection witli the fostering of the code in the High School, it was resolved that parents of hoys desirous of playing soccer be requested to sign a document to be placed before the High School Board of Governors. It was decided that the system of voluntary contributions towards the association’s funds, carried on in the summer months, be suspended during the football season. Tho following teams will he entered in the various grades for the 1931 season. Senior: St. Andrew’s, Athletic. Flock House and R.S.A. (Rangers and Feilding have withdrawn). Fifth grade: Te Awe Awe Scouts (two teams). Athletic. All Saints’, College Street, and Terrace End. Primary grade: Central School (Mr Contour), College Street School (Mr Worrall), Terrace End School (Mr Crowe), Hokowhitu School (Mr Houston). It was resolved that the league competition proper commence on Saturday, May 2. St. Andrew’s will meet Athletic at the North Street Pa.rk and R.S.A. will meet Flock House at Flock House. Officers of the management committee were appointed as follow : Chairman, Mr Young, secretary, Mr Smillie. treasurer, Mr Cooper. An endeavour is to be made to institute triangular matches between Taranaki, Wanganui and Manawatu and the secretary was instructed to communicate with the Taranaki and Wanganui associations to this effect. The finances and the matter of travelling out of the city will be considered at tho next meeting.
