HIGH OFFICIALS.
A RUAIOURED ORGANISATION. (By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, April 11. It had been reported that during the period when the Government’s salary reduction proposals were before Parliament a number of high officials of the Public Service formed an organisation to conserve their own, interests. An inquiry shows that this is not strictly correct, but that a number of responsible officers were in consultation on the subject of retrenchment and salary economies, not for the purpose of protecting their own emoluments. Their advice was required by the Government and they gave assistance in the examination of alternative proposals to show the effect on tho general body of public servants. Impartial advice was tendered to the Prime Alinister on the whole subject, and although the work necessitated the organisation of. a more or less informal body, it is not regarded as permanent and is not in conflict with the existing Public Service organisations, of which some of tho officials concerned are members.
