FROM STABLE AND COURSE.

(By “Binocular.”)

Awapuni stables furnish 18 nominations for the Hawke’s Bay fixture to be held on the Trentham course. The Taranaki Trotting Club, recognising the advantages to the public of cheaper speculative facilities, operated a five-shilling totalisator at its trotting fixture. Sir Mond was having his 35th start for the present season when he won the President’s Handicap at Ellerslie. His winnings for the season now total £1640. Ho was offered for sale recently, but failed to attract a bid. The Azelzion —Coronado gelding, Whippet, who raced in Mr' H. J. Woodfield’s interests at the Manawatu Trotting meeting at Ashhurst, got on the winning list at the Taranaki meeting on Thursday. There were three double winners at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting this week, Antrim Boy, Black Duke and Wise Choice. All three were taken to Riccarton for the meeting from Wingatui. Black Duke and Wise choice were stablemates on their arrival, but Wise Choice changed his quartern after winning the selling race on Monday, and is now a member of R. Ellis’s Riccarton team. There does not appear to bo any prospect of Gray being headed off on the winning jockey’s list this season. Easter Time, Karapoti, Bronze Eagle, Simba and Leitrim gave liim winning mounts at Ellerslie, and his victories on Kozan and Cessation at the Wairarapa meeting on Tuesday raised his tally to 81. Antrim boy, the winner of both hurdle races at the Canterbury Easter meeting, has been a very consistent performer during the last few months. This was his fourth win for the season, while his last seven starts have produced two wins and five placed performances. He is an aged gelding hy Some Boy II from Flare Gun, and is trained by S. W. Ware for Mr G. J. Barton. Lady Pam won the Great Northern Oaks very easily. She was in front a mile from home and stayed there and was never really extonded at any part of the journey. She had a touch of kidney trouble after working on Monday morning and in consequence was not able to show her best in the Autumn Handicap on the second day. It would appear as if the last has been seen of Beau Cavalier on the racocourse. After standing up to a fair amount of pacework, he had a recurrence of lameness last week, and it is unlikely that any fur : ' ther< attempt will be mado to train him. Beau Cavalier raced with considerable success in important jumping events in 192627 and 1927-28 seasons, winning, among other races, the great Northern Steeplechase, the Grand National Steeplechase, the Wellington Steeplechase, and the Great Northern Hurdles. The Auckland Easter Handicap winner, Hunting Cry, will probably contest the Hawke’s Bay Stakes, to bo run at Trentham and that will be his final appearance this season. Hunting Cry received a cut below the knee while contesting the Easter Handicap, and is displaying signs of soreness, but his trainer, J. M. Cameron, expects him to bo quite all right again after a few days” rest. FAVOURED IN WEIGHTS. Chopin has had a fairly busy season, but with a record of five firsts, two -seconds and the same number of thirds, his activities have not been unprofitable. The Lord Qucx gelding has been one of those horses who have avoided any material advance in the weights for despite winnings at Pahiatua, Wanganui, Woodville and Bulls, ho was allowed in on the same terms of 7.11 as ho had won with at the llangitikei fixture and lie added the Manchester Handicap at Feilding to his record. It is remarkablo that on only one occasion this season —it was at the Hawke’s Bay Hunt at the opening of the season —has Chopin been required to carry 8.0 or over and lie then avoided it by claiming an apprentice allowance. The handieapper took care of hint on the second day at Feilding by advancing him a. stone and he finished outside the placed horses, although he suffered interference early which did not mako his tusk any the easier. BLACK DUKE’S CAREER. WINNER OF £6195 IN STAKES. The victory scored by Black Duke in the Groat Autumn Handicap at Riccarton last Tuesday is the most notable that has been gained in a career marked by much hard racing and travelling. Black Duke started off this season by racing at Riccarton in August. In September he raced at the Otago Hunt Meeting, and at Geraldine; in October, at Kurow and Dunedin; in November at Winton; in December at Hokitika and Grcymouth; in January at Rcefton and Trentham; in February at Dunedin and Riccarton; in March at Trentham and

Waimate; and now in April at Riccarton. Black Duke’s winnings total £6195, mado up as follows: 1925-26 season (as a three-year-old), £165; 1926-27, £632; 1927-28, £1455; 1928-29, £835; 1929-30, £1447; 1930-31, £1670. Following is a record of Black Duke’s performances;

A. E. Didham has ridden Black Duke in 19 of his 31 wins. GREYMOUTH MEETING. WIN FOR GIGGLESWICK. Per Press Association. GREYMOUTH,* April 10.
