THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. A depression is centred east of Otago, but is moving gradually eastward. A moderate anti-cyclone covers eastern Australia. Winds moderate north-west-erlies north of Otago, but a change to moderate to strong southerlies advancing from the south during the night. Seas moderate at first, but later rising on the West Coast and south of Castlepoint. Moderate but freshening southerly winds and moderate but rising seas in the eastern Tasman Sea. Weather still changeable, with showers at times in most districts, but improving. Temperatures becoming cooler. There seems a prospect of southerly weather for two or three days. DISTRICT REPORT. COLDER CONDITIONS. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: The indications are for southeasterly winds, moderate to strong and freshening; expect dull weather with much mist and fog in parts. Conditions will become colder. The barometer is rising. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —3ft 9ins.
