FIRE BOARD. The annual meeting of the Feilding Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon, Mr A. H. Sutton presiding. Also present were Messrs Garthew, Smith, Barton and McCartney. A welcome to Mr McCartney, the newly appointed member of the board, was extended by the chairman. , , . Mr Sutton was re-elected chairman for the ensuing year. , ~ The chairman reported that the Feilding Borough Council had agreed to remove from the theatre licenses the condition calling on the proprietors to have a fireman in the theatres. . This privilege had been followed by a request to both theatre managers that certain structural improvements be carried out to the exits and fire escapes. , The Department of Internal Affairs notified the board of the early retirement of Captain Hugo, Inspector of Fire Brigades, and intimating that it was not intended to make another Appointment on the score of economy. Captain Hugo’s duties-, however, would be carried out by Mr Iv. Girling Butcher, chief inspector of explosives.—lt was decided to give Mr Butcher every assistance in the meantime, but to urge upon tire department that a specialist officer be appointed as soon as possible to replace Captain Hugo. On the motion of Mr Barton it was decided to convey to Captain Hugo the board’s appreciation of his services over a long period of years and wishing him every happiness in his retirement. ~ , , , It was decided to pay an account of £8 10s 6d for service honours presented to the Feilding brigadesmen at the last annual reunion. The annual meeting of the Feilding Old Boys’ Football Club was held on Wednesday evening,. Mr W. Bramwell presiding. The annual report, which was adopted, stated that the past season had been sue-, ccssful, the club proving stronger than ever numerically and entering senior and junior teams in the Manawatu competitions. The senior team finished third in the championship and the juniors * also had a good season. Several of the dub players attained representative honours and on one occasion N. Bramwell captained the Manwhenua team in a representative match. Officers as follow were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr L. J. Wijd; president, Mr Wm. Bramwell; vicepresidents, Messrs M. A. MacLeod, G. J. Fitzpatrick and Jas. Penney; secretary and treasurer, Mr C. Kerridgo; club captain, Mr C. Pearse; committee, Messrs J. Dewe, N. Bramwell, L. Penney, W. J. Cochrane and 11. Waugh; delegates to the Manawatu Rugby Union, Messrs W. Bramwell, Kerridge, Dewe, Cochrane and Pearso; auditor, Mr G. Rosoman; club coach, Mr Sims; junior coach, Mr N. Bramwell. Mr M. A. MacLeod donated two footballs for the senior and junior teams respectively, and a vote of thanks was accorded him. A lengthy discussion took place on a proposal to admit others than old pupils of the school as playing members of the dub. It was eventually decided to hold a special general meeting on Wednesday next to further discuss the matter. PERSONAL. Mr A. S. Warner, of Whakatann, Imn been appointed postmaster at 1 eliding, vice Mr G. Kilvington, who retires at the end of this month.’
