COOK STRAIT SWIM.
CONDITIONS UNFAVOURABLE. MERCEDES GLEITZE’S DECISION. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 20. Although keen to make the attempt, Miss Mercedes Gleitze decided this evening that she would not set out this season on her proposed Cook Strait swim. Miss Gleitze came to the decision after a final consultation with Air John Tait, of Island Bay. It is likely now that bliss Gleitze will return at the beginning of 1933, when the season may be more favourable to the. venture. . . The temperature of the water today was XSB degrees, which is too cold for a prolonged spell in the water, and it is. not likely that the temperatures in the near future will be any warmer. Added to this, there-has been a heavy swell in the strait during the last few days. bliss Gleitze was very anxious to make the attempt to-morrow if she possibly could, but she realised, after speaking to Mr Tait, that it would be a foolish venture.
