CRICKET ASSOCIATION.
HAWKE CUP MATCH. A meeting of the management committee of tITTJ Manawatu Cricket Association was held on Thursday night when there were present: —Messrs W. G. Miller (in tho chair), Ongley, Brace, Day, Norris, Gallichan and S. W. Miller (secretary). • It was decided that all clubs whoso subscriptions are still outstanding be written to asking for immediate payment and that they, be given to Wednesday. next in which to pay same, after which the amounts will bo placed in the association’s solicitor’s hands for collection. • - The secretary was instructed to telegraph to Waikato asking that Saturday and Monday, April 4 and 5, bo the dates on which the Hawke Cup match be played. Arrangements are to be made for the local team to leave on Thursday night by one of the expresses, and the matter of appointing a manager was left in the hands of the chairman and Mr Ongley. The Poverty Bay Association wrote asking for the association’s definition of a representative player and the sys'tem for alloting caps to same. It was decided to advise them that caps wero awarded to players who represented Manawatu against major or minor associations or against overseas teams. Tho New Zealand Cricket Council wrote advising that the association’s subscriptions were now due and asked for payment as soon as possible, as their finances were severley strained at the present -time. It was decided to continue the junior fixtures for the two remaining Saturdays, High School to have the bye the first week and Old Boys the second. Tho third grade is also to be continued for one week, the first round matches to be played on the 28th inst. The matter of arranging a match with Horowhenua for Saturday, 28th inst., was left in the hands of Mr Ongley. . . ' The Hawke’s Bay association inquired whether. Manawatu would be sending ii team to Napier at Easter. It was decided tp reply that owing to the Hawke Cup match at Hamilton it was not thought possible that a second team could be got together to make the trip to Napier. It was decided to ask tho Waikato association if they are prepared to. commence play each day at 10 a.m; instead of 11 a.m. as at Easter it will not be possible to play up to 6 p.m. It was mantained that, provided an earlier start could be made, the lost time could thus be made up.
