The passengers were asleep when the steamer Hera, of 1080 tons, ran ashore near Hammerfest, the most northern town of Europe. • Further details received nere show that the second mate, whose gallantry resulted in fifty-six people being saved, was twice beaten back in an attempt to reach the shore with a lire line. A young girl swam one hundred yards in a boiling sea and saved, herself. . i A girl aged five years was swept from her father’s arms and drowned, leaving a tiny shoe in his hand.
