CHINA TRADE.

DOMINIONS’ INTERESTS. Received February 21, 8.5 a.m. LONDON, Feb. 20. A plea for the use of Australian hardwood sleepers in China was heard on the China Indemnity Application Bill in the House of Commons. Mr H. Leslie Boyce (Conservative) moved an amendment for the purpose of widening the objects to which £4,000,000 might be applied by the Board of Trustees in China. Tile bill provided that money should be spent on the purchase of railway material in the United Kingdom. Mr Boyce said that never before had the Commonwealth been in such need of orders from overseas. If the Government accepted the amendment, all interested in the welfare of Australia would be extremely grateful. Mr P. J. H. Hannon (Conservative), in seconding the amendment, said that it would be a gesture of genuine friendship to Australia 1 if the Government accepted. Mr H. Dalton replied that the Government would be very glad to do whatever it could for Australia and for other Dominions interested in the China trade. The amendment was agreed to.
