POLITICS IN SPAIN.
FATE OF THE KING. Received February 17. 2.5. p.m. AIADRID, Feb. 16. King Alfonso remains nominally king until the elections and Parliament votes on the issue of the monarchy versus the republic. Sanchez Guerra j the new Premier, was involved in the Valencia revolt two years ago and imprisoned aboard a destroyer. Last year he made a famous speech in Aladrid, in which he stated tliat while lie remained a monarchist he had lost faith in King Alfonso.
One of Premier Guerra’s first steps was to wwito to the Republican Socialist elements asking them to accept three special portfolios in the Ministry. This action has been received with alarm in tire Right Monarchist circles, who feel it equivalent to letting the king’s foes into the stronghold of the monarchy without striking a blow. While Premier Guerra is consulting the politicians, King Alfonso is kneeling in prayer at his mother’s tomb. It is understood that thus far Premier Guerra has failed to induce the Republicans to participate in the Ministry.
