Kelling.—Kelling played tho French defence, but placed his knights badly. Seyerne, with pawn at king’s fifth, dominated the position. Queen rook and minor pieces were brought up to attack the castled king. Kelling gave up material to save, but without avail, and mate still being imminent, he resigned. Gyles v. Greenfield. —Queen’s Pawn game. Exchanges were made for control of the centres, Gyles’e pawn being strongly placed at queen’s fifth. Greenfield made a weak move and Gj'les was able to launch a great attack. He offered a sacrifice of a rook and threatened mate in about three moves, when Greenfield resigned. Miller v. The position w r as drawish, but Miller outplayed his opponent and scored a win. Maddox v. A bishop also having fallen cheaply, he resigned. Erskine v. Fairburn.—An English game in which Erskine soon dominated tho position with knight at king s sixth.
