DESTRUCTION BY FIRE.

TIAKITAHUNA HOMESTEAD BURNED.

Fire totally destroyed the liveroomed dwelling of Mr W. De Cleone, Tiakitahuna, at 10 o’clock on Saturday morning despite strenuous efforts by the residents to subdue the flames. The occupants were absent at the time of the outbreak, which was discovered by the observation of dense clouds of smoke. Neighbours attempted to form a bucket brigade, but the intense heat produced by the rapid destruction of the building prevented their .approaching near. Ihe house had been recently renovated and, together with some valuable iurniture, was completely destroyed. It is thought that tlie lire started in the front portion of the residence.
