METHODIST CONVENTION
■WELLINGTON, Jan. 3.. Strong support of the proposals now afoot to promote the union of Protestant churches was expressed by the annual convention of the New Zealand Methodist Young Men’s Bible Class Movement, in a resolution approving of the attitude adopted by the Methodist Church of New Zealand. It was reported that already co-operative organisations linking the Bible class movements of the chief. Protestant churches were accomplishing a great deal toward that end. Mr N. RSeddon presided over the convention, which lasted two days, at Wellington, and concluded last evening. The financial statement showed that £lßl2 had been handled by the New Zealand Union during the year, and that a small credit had been maintained. . The following officers were elected’: —President, Mr G. C. Burton; vicepresidents, Rev. E. D. Patchett, Messrs L. Mercier and. R. H. Boys; secretary, Mr E. L. Howe; treasurer, Mr A. H. Carman; auditor, Mr P. EPattrick; editor of The Link, Mr Burton; district organisers, Messrs J. Foster (Auckland), T. Mallindme (North Auckland), C. A. Scherer (South Auckland), L. T. Haycock (Bay of Plenty), R. A. Oliver (Taranaki), E. L Buxton (Wanganui), C. Symonds (Hawke’s Bay), G. Read (Manawatu), H. A. Smith (Wellington), R. W. Mayson (Nelson), R. J. Annabel (Marlborough), E. J. Foote (South Canterbury), A. Dingwell (Canterbury), A. R. Thompson (Otago), and also several to be nominated, for other districts. Ur. E. G. Sayers, the movement’s medical missionary was elected to life membership. . . , , Various votes of thanks included, special reference to the retiring president (Mr N. R. Seddon), the general secretary (Mr R. H. Boys), and the treasurer (Mr T. M. Pacey); also the travelling organiser (Rev. B. R. Hames) and the general secretary of the Methodist Young People’s Department (Rev. E. P. Blamires).
