BURGLAR AT WORK
TWO PREMISES ENTERED. A NEGLIGIBLE REWARD. Entrance v. was forced to two premises within a quarter of a mile of each other at Terrace End last evening, but the intruder Irad but a negligible reward for his pains. Mrs R. Godwin’s sweet shop adjoining the Coronation Hall was visited by the intruder, who attempted to force open both the front and backdoors, without success. Eventually he must have given his attention to the small side window, which was smashed, giving access to the shop. There a thorough search was made and drawers ransacked. The burglar located a stray shilling, but it is not known yet whether any ot the stock was removed. A new chisel was left behind. This is the third or fourth occasion on which the shop has been unlawfully entered. . . , , Apparently the same intrduder made a burglarious attempt at the service station and garage of Mr \\ . G Toms some distance further up Main Street East. A small door in the garage entrance was prised open and badly damaged, entrance, being gained in full view of the street a tew yards away. Fortunately, Mr Toms had previously removed the money from the cash register, and it was left open, empty -drawers greeting the intruder. The police are making investigations.
