FEILDING.

ACCIDENT AT KIWITEA. (Special to “Standard.”) Mr W. H. Gibson, of Kiwitea, had a narrow escape from more serious injuries than those he sustained when, on Boxing Day, he was pushed through the rear wall "of his motor shed by his car. The aocident occurred through a mistake in the putting into gear of Mr Gibson’s car by his nephew, who was at the wheel. The car usually driven by Mr Gibson’s nephew had gears placed exactly opposite from the position of the gears on the car in question with the result that, instead of putting the engine into reverse, a forward gear was engaged. Mr Gibson had gone to the front of the car to give it a push off and was standing with his hands on the radiator preparatory to pushing. The engaging of the clutch precipitated the car on to him and forced him through the wall before the driver was able to slop the car. Mr Gibson sustained a triple fracture of the right leg below the knee and i 6 now in Hospital where he is progressing favourably. NOTES. The New Year was ushered in in Feilding in the usual fashion, a large crowd remaining in Manchester Square making merry till the hour of twelve arrived. As the town clock struck midnight, whistles, squeakers, motor car horns and the siren on the fire engine made pandemonium, while the crowd linked hands and farewelled 1930 with “Auld Lang Syne” and with bursts of hearty cheers welcomed 3.931. Fifteen members of the Feildmg troop of Boy Scouts are encamped with the main scout camp at Wanganui, and visitors to the camp recently state that they are enjoying a wonderful time, the weather and the locality being ideal for the outdoor life. All picnic resorts in the vicinity of Feilding were again 'well patronised yesterday, the perfect weather enticing many to seek pleasure on the banks of the Oroua and elsewhere.
