LEGION REUNION

THE MANAWATU SQUADRON. Cameraderie and good spirits marked the reunion held on Saturday evening by the Manawatu (N) Squadron, of the Legion of Frontiersmen. The commanding officer, Captain R. H. Allen, Bresided.8 resided. Among others present were aptain Norman (Tokomaru), Lieutenant Bangay, Quartermaster-Ser-geant Fraser, Sergeant Louisson, Padre Rev. Mr Goertz and Trumpeter Wearne. The toast list was as follows: —“The King” (the chairman), “The 9000. proposed by Quartermaster-Sergeant W. Fraser, “Sussess to N Squadron in 1931,” proposed by Frontiersman Medway; “I Squadron CWellington),” proposed by Captain replied to by Frontiersman Barton; “The Entertainers,” proposed by Frontiersman Norman and replied to by Mr Duckworth. Proposing the toast of the Wellington Squadron, Captain Allen said that several of the foundation members of the Manawatu Squadron came from its ranks. There existed a most cordial relationship between the two bodies. The Manawatu Squadron had received every assistance from the Wellington Squadron, and had made substantial progress. Captain Allen extended a cordial welcome to Lieutenant MoNicol and Frontiersman Barton (I Squadron). Replying, Frontiersman Barton said that the Legionary movement was thriving in Wellington. As it appeared that compulsory military drill, in New Zealand was a thing of the past, they were hoping to secure some of the Permanent Force and Territorials. Already a number of old soldiers had joinel up. Lieutenant McNicol, also of the Wellington Squadron, spoke of the work being done at Wellington. During the evening entertainers gave items, including guitar solos by Mr A. Sundborn, instrumental items bv Mr Hargreaves, instrumental duets Messrs Sundborn, Penman and Messrs George and Finch, eccentric dances, Mr Penman, comic songs, Mr Chapman. Mr Duckworth was at the piano. Communitv singing enlivened proceedings. and such old war-time favourites as “It’s a Long, Way to Tipperary,” “There’s a Long, Long Trail a Winding,” and “Take Me Back to Blighty,” were sung with great gusto. The evening, which was one of the most enjoyable yet held bv the Manawatu Squadron.‘closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
