THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. An anti-cyclone is still located over the Tasman Sea, but is less intense and pressure lias fallen still further at the Chatham Islands. A fresh and extensive depression is now moving on to Tasmania. Winds south-westerly to westerly; moderate to fresh generally, but strong at times about Foveaux Strait; later becoming more westerly. There is a considerable swell south of Castlepoint and seas are rough in Foveaux Strait; otherwise smooth to moderate. Moderate south-west winds later veering to west and north-west in the eastern Tasman Sea; smooth to moderate seas. Weather cloudy and hazy mainly, with scattered showers developing soon on the west coast of the South Island and about Foveaux Strait. Temperatures mild. DISTRICT REPORT. The Gbvemment meteorologist wired to-day:—The indications are for moderate southerly winds after about 16 hours, and veering by west to north. There is a prospect of fair to cloudy weather. The conditions will become milder. The barometer shows little movement. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon.—lft 6ins.
