TOUR BY MINISTER.
VISITS TO SCHOOLS. The Minister of Education (Hon H Atmore), accompanied by his private secretary. (Mr W. I. Deavoll) arrived in Palmerston North early last evening from Wanganui. En route to tins centre the Minister visited the schools at Marton and Bulls. Mr J. Linklater, M.P., met the Minister at Bulls, where the chairman of the School Committee (Mr Campion) extended a cordial welcome to Mr AtmorO’ and stressed the need for consolidating the Parewanui, Bulls and Greatford schools. Mr Linklater raised the matter of the transport of children to secondary schools and the attendant expense to parents who could ill-afford I•’ i x • ,P ed tllat improvements lightening the burden would be carried into effect under the terms of the commission’s report. • Proceeding to Palmerston North the Minister was met by a deputation representing the Women’s Division of the Danners’ Union, headed by Mrs Jackson, of Masterton. They discussed with Mr Atmore the future of Girls’ .block House.
Subsequently the Minister proceeded to the \Vest End School, where ho was met by. Mr G. Tremaine (chairP/ 111 , or _the committee). Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., pointed out the desirability of acquiring two acres of land at present belonging to the Board of Governors of Wellington College Mr Atmore then visited the Girls’, T lock House at Awapuni. Conducted by -Mr T. R. Lees, he im££te d tlie station and was most .favourably impressed. The Minister attended the break-mg-up ceremony of the Technical School in the evening. He left at 7.30 a.m. to-day to inspect the Boys’ Flock House at Bulls, and thence proceeded direct to Wellington.
