A Press Association message from Ashburton says that the Borough Council resolved emphatically to protest against the proposed amendments to the motor vehicle regulations in connection with the licensing of drivers as cumbersome and unnecessary, and entailing a good deal of addifional expense. The present regulations were considered to be satisfactory. Allegations of larrikinism at North Street Park were made at last evening’s meeting of the City Council, when it was stated that windows had been broken in the grandstand, in addition to other acts of vandalism. Stating that he took a serious view of the affair, the Mayor said that if the practice was continued steps would be taken to prosecute the offenders. Similar complaints had been made with reference to other parks, particularly Terrace End. It was hoped that there would not be a recurrence of the trouble.
