REPAIRS AT SPORTSGROUND.

COUNCILLOR’S OBJECTION

“Where are we going to stop? Are we to continue spending money on footpaths at the Sportsground like this?” asked Cr. Guy at last evening’s meeting of the. Palmerston North City Council, when a recommendation was. made that the cycle racing track and the entrances from the main gates be topdressed and a narrow asphalt path he laid down at the rear of the stand, at a total estimate cost of £BO. The Mayor: It is for the cycle track and provision has been made on the estimates. Cr. Guy: I don’t care what it is. I will oppose it. _ ’ Cr. Fitzherbert: If we were to follow Cr. Guy’s policy we would let the ground go to wrack and ruin. We have been getting revenue from the sports bodies and we should give them proper facilities. I would suggest that Cr. Guy read the book by the two Maurices and see their references to the facilities at the Palmerston North Sportsground. The Mayor: You should point out the number of accidents that have occurred on this track. It was decided to have the work carried out.'
