ST. PAUL’S CHURCH.
CHILDREN’S ANNIVERSARY SE I>T *~^E3. Children’s day is a red letter day at St. Paul’s Church and Sunday, notwithstanding the inclement weather the church was well filled at all the servioes. Tho children of the Sunday school occupied a large gallery at the eastern end of the church, and they, with the assistance of tho choir, rendered some beautiful solos, sacred hymns and anthems. Children’s voices are always .attractive and yesterday their beautiful fresh notes filled the sacred building with songs of praise and adoration.
Rev. C. S. Matthews conducted the morning service and gave a delightful and practical address to the children his text being taken from St. John’ chap. 6, part of verso 9, “There is a lad here . . . .” ~ „ . At tlio afternoon service, the minister of the church, Rev. J. C. Draper, gave a very interesting talk to the children. Using a magnet, he drew many helpful lessons on the magnetic power of Jesus. During the afternoon the prizes were presented to the children of tlio infant department, by Mr G. H. Stiles. Some very pretty hymns were sung by tlie little tots during the service. A large congregation packed the church for the evening service and listened with delight to the beautiful singing of the children. Mr Draper addressed the parents on Deut., 6th chapter, verse 7: “And thou shalt teach them diligently unto Thv children.” The sermon was an eloquent and earnest appeal to the parents to train their children in the Christian religion. Solos were sung during the day by Misses Baker, Whitehead and Maunder, Masters Shailer and Young, and Mr A. J. McLeavey. Great credit is due to Mr Albert Tregurtha for the way he trained the children. The organist was Miss Stiles; pianist, Miss Sinclair, and a small but highly efficient orchestra, consisting of Misses Howley, Bailey and Messrs E. Low and G. H. Bycroft, rendered excellent service.
