BULLS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

BULLS, Oct. 9

Local cricket enthusiasts are looking forward to the opening match of the season, which will take place on Saturday. About twenty-five 1 attended practices on the Domain, and other members from Parewanui and Raumai Road have since been enrolled, so that the club should have no difficulty in fielding both Wednesday and Saturday elevens. There are several fairly good players hero, amongst the number being J. Daniell (ex-Manawatu), Goodall and Campbell (both of Flock House), Last Harris, Tate, L. Cooper, T. Prichard, F. Cutts, J. Dunger, D. Stewart, L. Ransom and H. Lurm, and what the others lack in ability they make 'up for in enthusiasm. Generous support has been forthcoming from old-time players, and the club has a good supply of material, and is in a sound financial position. The annual school ball will be held on Friday, October , 17, and preparations are now well in hand. A feature will be made of folk dances, and a plain and fancy dress assembly should attract a large number of parents and friends. Very deep regret was occasioned by the death of Samuel Armstrong, which occurred in Palmerston North Hospital on Tuesday. The deceased was a quiet and popular young man, and resided near Greatford" for some years, afterwards taking up farming in the Waikato, but his health broke down, and in spite of all that medical attention could do, he succumbed at tho early age lof 28 years. Some five years ago he married a daughter of Mr C. E. Vile, and leaves a widow and one child, with whom deep sympathy is felt in their sad loss. Mr Armstrong’s parents live at Cambridge. The funeral, which took place at Clifton Cemetery, Bulls, on Wednesday afternoon, was largely attended. , , _ ~ The Town Board will meet on In day evening this week.
