240 MILES PER HOUR. Piloted by Captain Frank M. Hawks, I ‘Texaco Number 13,” the new ‘niysterv ship’ recently developed the terrific speed of 240 miles an hour in the face of a 17-miles-an-hour wind. The ’plane is the fastest commercial ship ever designed, built, or flown, and its speed is equivalent to 352 feet per Edcond. Captain Hawks recently flew the “Texaco 13” from New York to Los Angeles (2500 miles) m 14 hours and 60 minutes, breaking the previous record by 3 hours 50 minutes. He returned to New \ork in 12 hours 25 minutes, or 2 hours 20 minutes quicker than the best previous record from west to east.
