DENTAL CLINICS.
RURAL DISTRICT EXTENSION. Following a resolution passed at the last Dominion Conference to the effect that the Government be urged to hasten the establishment of dental clinics to serve rural districts, the executive of the Manawatu Dairy Farmers’ Union was advised yesterday afternoon by the Minister of Health that the school dental service had already been established in country districts in many parts of the Dominion, and its operations were being still further extended each year as rapidly as circumstances permitted. During the seven years which had elapsed since the first dental nurses were available the service had been steadily expanded, until at present there were 170 treatment centres in the Dominion. Some 847 schools had already been brought within the scope of the service, and 60,000 children were now receiving regular and systematic dental treatment through the agency of the school dental clinics. During the near future clinics would be opened at. a number of new centres, including Shannon. The operations performed from January 1 to December 31, 1929, by dental officers, dental nurses and probationers in training had numbered 370,074.
