KIWITEA COUNTY.

MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Kiwitea County Council was held at Kimbolton yesterday, Cr. L. T. McLean presiding. Also present were Crs. D. L. Younger, W. Hair. N. V. Shannon, W. P. Shaw, T. D. Wood, F. 0. Stack, J. A. T. Brown and J. H. Williamson. CORRESPONDENCE. From Hon. J. G. Cobbe, with reference to the council’s application for a free grant of £l5O on account of the Titirangi, Road and advising that lie will personally represent to the Minister of Public Works the necessity for the grant.—Received. From the Wellington Division of the New Zealand Branch of the British Empire Campaign Society, appealing for a donation towards the cancer fund.—Received, no action taken in the meantime. i From the New Zealand Institute of Architects, forwarding copy of a resolution passed by the executive committee regarding tho deposit of drawings and specifications for building permits.—Received. From Waituna Hall Coy., requesting permission to erect a verandah on the front of the hall.'—Granted. From the Minister of Internal Affairs, forwarding copy of the schedule and map of the proposed ’ regional boundaries in connection with the town planning scheme. —Received', the council taking no action, but being of the opinion that the time was not opportune to add to the burden of local bodies.

Fitmi. Messrs H. Hole and Son, Rewa, requesting permission to cut a drain on the roadside along their boundary fence on the Mangapipi Road.— Granted, subject to certain conditions.

From the Public Trustee, advising that the application for a loan of £4BOO for a term of five years with interest at 6 per cent, plus a sinking fund of 18 per cent, for the 2>urpose of redeeming the balance of the road.- . . machinery loan,' which matured on August’ 1 last, had been granted, subject to the sufficiency and legality of the security.—Received. GENERAL. Air W. Aliers was granted permission to erect a cream stand on Kimbolton Road subject to the approval of. the overseer. It was decided to suspend the duties of the ranger between the hours of sunrise and i sunset as from October 1 on conditions similar to previous years. - The overseer was instructed to procure a bath for the roadman’s cottage at Rewa. BANK BALANCES.

The county finances were shown as under: —County fund account, dr. £627 16s 7d; employees’ accommodation special loan account, cr., £26 9s lid ; employees’ accommodation special loan account, oil fixed deposit, £700; Kimbolton cemetery account, cr., £ls 4s 4d’; land fund account No. 2, cr., £523 18s 7d; Vinegar Hill bridge loan account, cr., fixed deposit £1400; Waituna cemetery account, cr., £5 16s lid. OVERSEER’S REPORT.

The overseer for the southern ridings (Mr F. H. Eggers) reported as follows: —Cheltenham Riding.—During the past month the contractor delivered cubic yards of maintenance metal to the dump at the Lower Beaconsfield Bridge. This contract is now completed, the total quantity carted out from the Kiwitea- stream being 1230 cubic yards. A new drain has been cut on the No. 52 main highway in order to divert the storm water and a bend on Hayne’s Road improved. All road surfaces in this riding have been kept in order with the power grader. Kiwitea Riding.—Apart from dressing main highways with the power grader, very little work has been done in this riding during the past month. An old timber culvert on the road near the deviation, Kimbolton Road, has been renewed with 9in. cement pipes. Pot hole repairs to all roads have received attention, and a start was made with the earth banking work on the No. 52 main highway. Waituna 'Riding.—Further -improvements to .bends .on Rewa Hill have been carripd out and the usual ma intenance on all roads attended to. The contractor will be making a start with the carting out of maintenance metal on the No. 377 main highway during the present week. The timber necassarv for repairs to a bridge. near Rewa has been cut and the repair work will be proceeded with at an early date. Ongo Riding. —The work of carting ■out maintenance metal on the No. 37’7 main highway in this riding is now in progress. Additional repair metal has also been carted to the new filling work on Wilson’s , Road. The contractor has delivered 60 cubic yards of maintenance metal on Parorangi .Road. All roads in the riding have been well maintained during the month. Kimbolton Riding.—Further improvements to bends and superelevation work have been carried out on the No. 58 liigliwav. All roads in the riding have been well maintained during the past month, and the main highway sections have received freouent attention with the power grader. Peep-o-Day Riding.—The roadmen' have been engaged during the past month with the work of cleaning out water tables and the surface repairs. General. —The road surfaces throughout the six southern ridings are at present in verv good order and the estimated work for the current year is . well advanced. — Adopted. . .
