SCOTTISH SHIP CANAL.

COMMITTEE REJECTS SCHEME. A committee appointed by the British Ministry of Transport- has rejected a proposal for a ship canal joining the Firth of Forth and the Clyde on the ground that it would cost £50,000,000, the whole amount to be provided out of the Exchequer, whereas it was doubtful whether the revenue would cover working expenses. “There is no prospect of any development which would justify the expenditure, as the construction of the canal cannot commence for four years, and it would be useless as a means of relieving unemployment,’’ the committee stated.
