AUSTRALIAN MATCHES. MELBOURNE, Sept. 10. In the first round of the inter-State golf matches, which was decided on the second day of the National golf meeting, on the Metropolitan links, New South Wales defeated South Australia by 5 matches to 2; Victoria won all seven matches against Tasmania, and Victoria beat New South Wales by 5 to 2. M. J. Ryan, Victorian amateur champion, defeated two difficult opponents, Len Nettlefold, of Tasmania, by a single hole, and H. Morrison, of New South Wales, at the twenty-third hole.
