LONGBURN.

(From Our Own Correspondent). LONGBURN, Aug. 14. The bachelors of Longburn held their annual ball on Tuesday evening and it proved to bo a great success. There was a very large attendance, the floor being taxed to its utmost. Tho committee are to be congratulated on the beautiful decorations carried out in royal blue “9” gold. Streamers from all parts of the hall were twined gracefully to the centre where hung a huge cluster of balloons which later wore .released. Tho stage was specially decorated with palms and a trellis of greenery and coloured flowers, while on the black stage curtains were many huge coloured butterflies, making a striking effect. Large Chinese lanterns hanging over the lights and tho many beautiful frocks of the dancers completed a wonderful picture. The colour scheme was carried out in the supper room where tall vases of bulbs graced tho long wellladen tables. The lucky balloon dance was won by Miss M Barker and Mr Jackson, and the lucky spot by Miss Lyla Campbell and Mr A. Street. Extras were played by Miss E. Jeffrey and Alessrs W. Larkins and W. Mitchell. The ladies’ committee in charge of the supper were Mesdames G. Cooksley, Kinnimont, Foss, AlaclCay, Luxford and AlacLelland. Air R. Cooksley proved a capable AI.C. Perica, lemon taffeta; E. Stanford, beige silk velvet; N. AlacBrearty, black crepe-de-chino. . Miss Colley has returned to Palmerston North after spending a few days as the guest of Airs Shirriffs. Last week Air R. Kinnimont had the misfortune to break a small bone in his right arm. The injured limb is now progressing satisfactorily. Mr J. Paul, of Wellington, spent the week-end in Longburn as the guost of Mrs C. C. Hills. Mr and Airs T. Rowland, of Karere, have returned after a brief visit to Wellington and Oliau. Air and Mrs W. Corke aro at present on a motor lour of the North Island.
