MARCONI’S YACHT

OUTBREAK OF FIRE. WIRELESS EQUIPMENT DESTROYED. MUCH EXCITEMENT ON SHORE. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received August. 12, 11 a.m. ROME, Aug. 11. There was an outbreak of fire oil board Senatore Marconi’s yacht Elettra, in the harbour of Civita Vecchia, 35 miles north-west of Rome. The outbreak was due to a short circuit, which occurred while Senatore Marconi was sending a wireless message to London. The Senatore superintended the fire operations. The yacht and much valuable apparatus were saved, though the wireless equipment was destroyed. There was great excitement on the shore when the vessel was seen to be enveloped in smoke.
