BURGLARY AT PAHIATUA.
(From Our Own Correspondent). PAHIATUA, Aug. 12. After the shop had closed at 9 p.m. on Saturday a thief or thieves entered tho premises of Mr P. E. Wingfield, stationer. When Mr Wingfield opened his shop on Monday morning ho noticed several suitcases scattered about as well as other articles disarranged. In tho rear of his premises he found that a panel in tho back door had been smashed, thus enabling tho bolts to be slipped back and an entrance effected. All that had been loft in tho till by Mr Wingfield were some coppers which had been taken by the intruders. A few loose shillings in another part of tho shop and some stamps were also missing. From the shop itself the burglars had taken a variety of articles including crockery, stationery, fountain pens, combs, jewellery, handbags, fancy soaps, pocket wallets as well as dozens of other trinkets. Tho articles were apparently packed in two suitcases which were also missing. _ Mr Wingfield estimates his loss in tho vicinity of £2O. and, from the articles taken, he is of tlie opinion that the burglars were almost juvenile in their tustes.
