PIGEON SHOOTING.
NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 11. The New Zealand live pigeon championship was fired to-day in dull weather, but an absence of wind was welcomed by the shooters. There were 31 entries. The championship was won by M. Pratt (Hamilton), wfth E. F. Stead (Christchurch) runn6r-up. In the first shoot, eight killed 20 birds.—E. P. Graham, H. Grennell, R. Mcllwrick, M. Pratt, Rt S. Taylor, E. F. Stead, H. M. Wright and W. G. Gerard. These divided the prize money. In the shoot-off Pratt shot 19 straight; Stead failed at the 19th, Wright at the 16th, Taylor at the 11th, Gerard and Grenfell at the 6th, and Graham at the sth. Mcllwrick missed the first bird. SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 10. The South Island pigeon shooting championship was won at the Rangiora Gun Club’s grounds on Saturday by E. Lansdell, of Lumsden, W. G: Gerard, of Hororata, being runner-up. There were 24 entries, and the birds were shot on a 35 yards rise. Lansdell secured the gun club’s medal and the prize money, £2B 16s, was distributed among Lansdell, Gerard, M. Anderson, Truscott and A. Anderson.
